DETROIT -- Tigers catcher Victor Martinez could miss the season because of a torn ACL in his left knee, sustained last week while he was conditioning.

An MRI taken at the Watson Clinic in Lakeland, Fla., on Monday revealed the ACL tear. Martinez will be re-evaluated by Dr. Richard Stedman next week and surgery to repair the tear is anticipated. Martinez will most likely be lost for the 2012 season if surgery is required.

Martinez hit .330 with 40 doubles, 12 home runs and 103 RBIs in 145 games with the Tigers last season.
Wow. I don't think it was just shit talking...did you kick a puppy or something? That's terrible. But I guess that's what we get for drafting in Jan.

13.16 John Danks, SP, Chi Whitesox
I like this pick a lot. Not a very sexy pick, but a pretty solid bet for a bounceback, and at pick #267, you can't argue the value. He was a 5th rounder last year.
I don't dislike the Danks pick, but lets just say I am really happy freeze went with Danks over Baker. Looking at last years numbers, obviously I like Bakers numbers better;

2011
2011 STATS AGE IP W ERA K WHIP K9
Danks 27 170.1 8 4.33 135 1.339 7.13
Baker 30 134.2 8 3.14 123 1.173 8.22

The two things Danks definitely has on his side are a few years, not that Baker is 'old' by any stretch of the imagination, but coupled with Bakers inability to stay healthy in recent years definitely becomes the equalizer in the comparison.

2008-11 IP W ERA K WHIP K9
Danks 778.2 48 3.77 605 1.262 6.99
Baker 677.1 46 3.92 574 1.222 7.63

Obviously over the past 4 seasons they have been pretty much the same player, but that is ultimately what scared me off the most from Danks. Its almost like something has changed since all of a sudden he is posting a higher than 1.3 whip. I definitely hope Danks does in fact have a bounce back year, and he very well may. But I still like getting Baker with the later pick. We'll have to wait and see who ended up getting the better end however.

Davis,

Great post and actually pretty funny because I was in fact looking at both pitchers along with Bud Norris who was picked a few picks earlier. Essentially my decision, as many of mine are, was based on my "draft potential mentality". I am actually a Baker guy and often end up with him on many of my teams each year. There are two reasons I drafted Danks first:

1. Potential - I just feel like Danks upside is greater. To me he is one of those guys that is bound to have a top 20 starting pitcher season. He was drafted number 9 overall and I tend to trust scouts. Simply put, this late in the draft I'd rather draft the high ceiling low floor guy than the slightly more safe Scott Baker.

2. Health - Baker seems to get inured every year. To me the problem with injuries isn't the 2 to 4 weeks they miss it's the three bad starts before and after they are injured. Danks seems like a bit more of a horse to me.

Is it my pick? I don't have that I traded away my 14.10 pick, however on S-Man's sheet it says I traded it away to knockers?

Is this just a error? Should I pick?

Yeah, that could have been my fault. I've been updating S-Man's sheet a lot. I went and tracked down the trade just to double-check. Here it is...

False. That was pick 15.20. You should post the number of the pick you are currently making, not the pick you originally owned and traded away.

Heggos will be on the clock with pick 16.1 starting at 7am.

One more thing: While trying to search S-Man's board I inadvertantly switched one of Vogel's picks to Jordan Walden. Apologies. I'm pretty sure it saved. Vogel, if you want to look at that pick again and correct it that would probably be best.

I think this might be a question for S-Man, seeing as he's the moderator of this fine forum, but is it possible to make the time signature of the draft when you're not logged in the same as when you are logged in? Confusing question to ask, so, just to clarify...

Time the site said Kershawkalypse made his pick when I was logged out: 9:03pm

Time the site said when I was logged IN: 8:03pm (which is the the actual PST)

I was waiting for FusionHah to make his pick because I thought his clock started at 7am this morning, because I didn't realize that his pick came up within the 7am - 9pm PST window. All I had to do was log in to see I was wrong, but I didn't think of that for hours.
