Any interest in an auction league?

I'd be interested in managing a team in an auction league. However, I'd ideally like to draft live. NorCal peeps?

I'd try it. Be hard to get enough people though.

Buxton and I do one in Santa Ynez every year. Freeze has been in it in the past as well. If anyone would be interested in joining up with that group, I'd love to put a request in to add you. Amato- let me know, I think I try and recruit you every year for it.

Auction style drafts are so much fun. Bidding on players, budgeting your teams salary cap, and getting $1 steals just can't be replicated in snake format.

The more I read of "Fantasyland" the more I want to start an auction league. I love the idea that you have a crack at every player. No more being burned by someone taking that one guy you wanted two picks before your pick comes up.

I'm currently in two auction leagues--one NL-only keeper (9 teams) and one mixed-league redraft (15 teams). I used to be skeptical, but I now love it--the drafts are such a blast with nearly everyone involved on every pick. And the strategies are exponentially more complicated than snake drafts. Do you go stars and scrubs, with 3 or 4 $30 players and a bunch of players under $10? Do you wait until the top 20 or so players are off the board and start to get value when the room doesn't want to go the extra dollar for second-tier talent? Do you price enforce a player you don't like and get stuck owning him? Do you spend enough early on so that you're not left with money at the end? Do you get involved in bidding wars for players you thought would go for $1?

Fantasyland does a great job of conveying the experience of an auction draft.

Apparently, Yahoo will have online auctions this year, but it just won't be the same as a live draft.

I did one last year and loved it.

Best part was bidding up Han Ram and Utley to 70+ each dollars when we started with 300. This one guy was dead set on both of them and I made him pay dearly.

I'd be interested in partaking but will be unable to do a live draft in norcal. If you do it via yahoo I'm in though.

I'll definitely be asking around once Yahoo announces whether they'll do it or not.

I used ESPN last year and it worked well -- and it's free.

Setting up an auction league.

Stats I was thinking of putting in there
HR, RBI, RUNS, AVG, OPS, SB
W,ERA, WHIP, Ks, OBP against and net saves (saves minus blown saves)

Open to changes, but I wanted to get away from the standard stats.
Contemplating Net Steals as opposed to just straight steals.

MLB player universe - rotisserie

Any suggestions?
If you are interested let me know, I'll send you an invite.

Just send me your emails and I'll invite you.

im gonna try an auction league, but will likely join one with standard 5x5 settings. I agree that OPS and OBP are better indicators in real baseball, but i dont have the time and mental organization to have two seperate stes of rankings and assessments in my mind. I want to draft, manage players, field trades, search fro free agents, etc throughout the year without having to think about what the settings are in this league. I want to think of players as having a set fantasy value, rather than "in this league he is elite, while in the other league is just alright" (eg Adam Dunn). And ultimatley, any league i do is just a practice/warmup/ cnditioning exercize for Baseball Obsession. I think an auction league will help me think about player's values in a new light, which could help for our BO league.

If you are interested in making an auction league with standard 5x5 settings, Im in. If not, no worries, i dont mind finding a league where nobody knows about the Jeter man crush (im dont really wanna have to spend 50 dollars for him in your league :)
