Stockpiling KC rookies- not sure that's a great strategy, but what the heck...
He has an 89 Upper Deck? How come baseball card companies cant create any new designs the last 5 years, instead just recycling older layouts? This is one of the many reasons the industry is dying. Show me any Topps card from 52 to 92 and i can instantly identify the year by the distinct design/layout. One of my great joys as a boy was going to the liquor store in January and seeing if the new Topps cars were in yet, and the excitement of opening the new pack to ssee what they looked like. This doesnt exist anymore. Anyone know what a 2008 Topps card looks like?
I'm pretty sure this Hosmer is a photo-shopped fan card- not the real thing (you see a lot of these on the net). Topps has actually come out with a new original set every year. Here's what the soon to be released 2011's will look like:

Image

Starting in 2001 Topps released a second set, called Topps Heritage to celebrate 50 years of Topps cards. The 2001 set reused the 1952 set:

I actually like the throwbacks- love seeing the current players in the old, classic card designs. The 2011 Heritage set is featuring one of my all-time favorite sets- 1962 Topps:

Did Mendoza get passed? It looks like we're still missing pick #22.11, but it's hard to tell because not everyone is numbering their selections!

Perhaps someone should let him know that he's slid down 6 spaces and counting (assuming that's the case)...

The massive drop-off in attention the past few days has been disappointing.

People! You committed to 30 rounds, not 20 or 22! Let's bang this shit out, OK?

Just for a little clerical:

Mendoza's 22.11 pick is available to pick whenever he logs in next and makes the pick.

Tiphus's 22.18 & 23.1 are well past their 12 hours total window, and are eligible to be jumped.

Ryan Walton has been on the clock since 7:42AM- he has until 1:42PM to make his pick.

And yes, this is exactly why many of us wanted to lower the waiting period to at least 4 hours between picks in the later rounds. The teams that are still committed to building teams through the draft shouldn't have to wait days in-between picks. Shorter wait periods reward the teams that are checking in.

Wasn't the last pick before Tiphus made after 8pm? Doesn't that mean that Tiphus has 12 hours starting at 8am this morning?

The last pick was at 7:42 pm. If I understand the 8 to 8 rule correctly, then the clock is effectively shut off during these hours. This would mean that Tiphus' first pick is due by 1:42pm, and his second pick by 7:42pm.

I guess he could technically wait until 7:42pm to make both picks, since no one can pass him until then.

Scranton, you seem to have a different interpretation of the 8 to 8 rule. I admit that I could be wrong here, so please correct me if that's the case.

Alternative idea: just let those teams that don't care about their rosters anymore opt out of the draft and let those who do actually pick players.

Just to clarify, Tiphus 1st pick runs after the clock runs out 1:42 am, his second pick picks up at 1:42 am, but since that is not in between 8am and 8pm, the clock starts again at 8 am the next day. So technically, he had until 2 pm to make his two picks.

But since he made them, that point is moot. People on here have to realize that shit comes up and you won't be able to make a pick. I know that when I am at work I have no internet and can barely use my phone, so people REALLY should lighten up.

The bookend 2nd pick is outside of the 8am to 8pm window interpretation is interesting. Seems like they should have a 12 hour window if the previous pick falls within the 8am to 8pm window. That seems like a very reasonable amount of time to post two names on a bulletin board.

One more point- I have no problem with anyone taking 6 hours to take a pick. We all get hung up and busy. The problem is when the same people consistently run the 6 hour window, pick after pick. That stinks, and I'm certainly not the only one on here who feels this way.

It's their 6 hours and they can do with it what they please. Again, we are ahead of schedule and we will be done well before the season starts (possibly before pitchers and catchers report!).

Tick tock tick tock, another 6 hours winding down. I just saw RoidRager logged in, blinker on, ready to pull into the passing lane.

Think we can make a run here?

I went against two of my moral codes today.

1) Make a trade with Amato.
2) Trade draft picks without a player involved.

I was real broken up about it, then I realized that I missed out on Miguel Olivo.

One of my favorite posts of the off-season from USS Mariner on one of my least favorite signings, titled "Just Say No To Miguel Olivo":

http://www.ussmariner.com/2010/12/07/ju ... uel-olivo/

Miguel Olivo sucked the first time he was in Mariner blue; the second time isn't likely to be much better.

According to the spreadsheet, Posey is on the clock with pick #421.

"Hacked into" is the wrong phrasing, it was more along the lines of spamvertised by a bot. No, it wasn't because I was smart enough to turn off new user registration last year. Just deleted the spam posts. Turning off user registration now...

I have felt bad about not making my picks sometimes on time or lengthy due to work, and I apologize about that. But the fact that no one has been bitching about the fact that the last pick was 18 hours ago is kinda weak.

Freeze just moved into a new house, and is without internet in the short term. He's also got a lot going on at work. Most importantly, he's consistently quick with his picks, and to my knowledge, has never gone the limit. I give him a pass. As I said before, running late on a pick is not an issue for me. It's the standard practice of consistently running up the clock that "is kinda weak" IMHO.
