Juan Pierre? Really? Ooook. . .
By the way, I also really like shooting the moon for saves. Broxton, Rivera and Bailey? There is only so many ways to say "Hey! I'm going to rack up saves and try and trade up later."

That was what I thought when I saw this pick. Then, but... given Guillen's weird affinity for low OBP, ragarm leadoff outfielders who run every time they're given a chance Pierre is again fantasy relevant.Pocket full of Posey wrote:Juan Pierre? Really? Ooook. . .
If he bats 500 times, he probably steals 50. Right around the Bourn/Morgan range.
Yeah, these are the things I think about.

It is gigantic. After naming my team I looked around the site and saw two pictures of Polanco's head already posted. I felt much less original.TheWolfpack wrote:I guess there is a lot to think about when you have a head as HUGE as Placido PolancoPolanco's huge head wrote:That was what I thought when I saw this pick. You can always rename it. A suggestion: Olerud's Helmeted AneurysmPolanco's huge head wrote:

We must be on the same page, because you took a couple guys in the even rounds that I loved, picking a few spots ahead of me (was really bummed when you snagged Cain).

I must be missing something if more than one person was coveting Matt Cain ahead of Hamels, Gallardo, Kershaw, Peavy, or even a few other pitchers still on the board.ucancallmedavis wrote:Thank you, thank you.. too kind.wsuguay wrote:I gotta say, I like what Davis is putting together.

Let's see: declining K/9, lucky BABIP last year, and plays for a team with a shitty offense. Nice pitcher, but kind of risky in the 4th.
And I say this as a Giants fan. Or maybe I say this because I'm a Giants fan.
(Feel free to point out that Hamels is just as risky or that Wieters was a huge reach or that Granderson will fail to live up to Bronxpectations...this is all in good fun and I enjoy the back and forth.)

Re: Discuss the draft
I for one loved the back to back picks of Wieters and Hamels. They were both minor reaches, but exactly the type of players you reach for- young, uber-talented, high reward guys. I was hoping to grab both of them at some point, and you went and grabbed them both back to back. Well played.heggos wrote: (Feel free to point out that Hamels is just as risky or that Wieters was a huge reach or that Granderson will fail to live up to Bronxpectations...this is all in good fun and I enjoy the back and forth.)

High risk, high reward. Who knows what he's going to put up this year coming back from injury. I was going to grab him in the next round if he was still there...YankeeManiac wrote:i thought brandon webb was a steal. i was really lookign forward to drafting him this round instead i took my default (a Yankee)
I have trouble ranking Billingsly, Nolasco, Jurrjens, Cain, and Hamels. They have all had their struggles and I think it's a toss up who outperforms who this year.
Re: Discuss the draft
When did Jurrjens struggle last year? The most ER he gave up all season was 5. That happened once (and he won that game). The highest ERA he posted in any one month was 3.68 in June. If anything the knock on him is that he only strikes out a little more than 6 per 9 innings. That jumped out at me about your post because I owned him last year and he was steady all season.

Re: Discuss the draft
Yeah, you're right. He struggles in not striking people out. A safe choice, but I group him with this set because he has better WHIP/ERA #'s but less K's. Just not sure in what order to draft these guys. Thankfully you all made my decision very easy with your choices.RoidRager wrote:When did Jurrjens struggle last year? Re: Discuss the draft
Nolasco & Hamels were extremely unlucky on batted balls last year; their basic skill #s remained similar to previous seasons. Billingsley has a ton of talent if he'd only stop walking people (and his K rate went down last year, which gave him little margin for error). Cain was lucky last year (just as he was unlucky the year before). Jurrjens' low K/9 and lucky BABIP from last year scream "regression" to me. He's similar to Porcello in that they're low K, ground ball pitchers that are more valuable in real baseball than in fantasy.Knight2254 wrote:High risk, high reward.
