Discuss the draft

I was set on C.C., and of course he gets picked 2 picks before I'm set to grab him- oh the pains of competing in a highly skilled and competitive fantasy league!!!
Hopefully I get vintage Johan, and ultimately end up with the better pick.
P.S. I thought it would be good to set up a thread that didn't necessarily require one to "flame" another owner.

Love Sizemore at Pick 32.

johan at 30 and sizemore at 32 are both pretty excellent. Both were top 20 picks last year and could easily return to top 20 status in 2009 (there are still 2 other top 10 picks from last year that are floating and could return to that level in '10, and those will be great value picks also)

I also love how I was completely oblivious to the fact it was 6 hours and not 12. But yeah, I still got my man.
Get there C.C. and Halladay for 40 combined wins.

Not to toot my own horn, but Jimmy Rollins at pick 34 was the steal of the draft thus far.
The former NL MVP had an awful first few months of 2009, which really tainted his season numbers and obscures the fact that he turned things around to have a STELLAR second half:
59 runs, 103 hits, 15 HR, 50 RBI, 21 SB .287 AVG in the months of July, August, and September.
Project those numbers to a full season and we're looking at close to 120 runs, 30 HR, 100RBI, and over 40 steals...basically an MVP-caliber, fantasy elite SS who will put up middle-of-the first round type numbers.
I just have to be careful to not take his advice when visiting the Sportsbook or placing bets with my bookie:

You so wish you got Jeter instead. Don't even front. I'd rather have Jeter and I hate the Yankees.

Fantasy wise Rollins IS the better player, and is truly the steal of the draft. Does that mean i would have drafted him over Jeter? No. My man crush on Jeter is timeless. It rivals Costanza's man crush on Tony the "Mimbo", Michael Scott's man crush on Ryan, and Donati's man crush on Swisher.

Not to toot my own horn but Jason Bay with the 52nd overall pick is an absolute steal IMHO. MVP caliber player this late screams value pick! Ok- I guess my horn has been tooted.
With that said, two thirds of my team plays for the Mets- which absolutely kills me in a Phillies fan kind of way...

Cockcroft would disagree with you

Lets hope he doesn't get the Wright disease. Maybe they will help each other.

Bay will be solid, which is important in a deep league with few transactions. You just need consistency out of your first few picks.
That said, I probably would've taken Beltran over Bay. Wait--Beltran is still out there? Talk about fallllllllling...

i know! i was considering taking beltran over rollins, but decided against it because to do so would virtually end my chances of trading for my man love

Off topic: hard to believe the Red Sox are going into the year with their lineup being essentially the same as last year, only without Bay.

I read this article- ultimately just one writer's opinion. I'm working off multiple ranking lists, and Bay averages out much higher than where Cockcroft ranks him, and still provides me with what I view as a very solid value pick- only time will tell.

I've been hearing a lot of Adrian Gonzalez to the Red Sox talk on the San Diego sportstalk radio- I don't think the Red Sox are done with their roster yet...

Would be interesting. I think I've hear Bucholz's name thrown around with that potential deal.

I read
this blog post a couple days ago. It really does make sense to keep him a Padre until the trade deadline gets closer and all the 1b free agents sign.
At that point, he'll probably join the Red Sox and become an absolute monster.

I propose we suspend the 6 hour rule over tonight and tomorrow. I encourage making picks, but it might be difficult to make selections with a clear head and not completely drunk for the next 12-24 hours.
