The new league rules

Post by Pocket full of Posey »

Hey everyone,

I was hoping the new rules for the league would be posted here. Something that explains about how it's head to head, things like that. Also, did I hear right that this year we only have 4 hours to pick? I completely vote against that. Some people have work and won't have access to a computer for that time. Plus, if it remains 6 hours, we can just draft longer! :D

This is the e-mail I got from Amato:

Happy Holiday Season Fellow Baseball Nerds

Its almost that time again! The 2011 draft is near! (how awesome is that?!!)

The first round will start on Dec 26. (It would be fun to make this a tradition).

This year, you will have 4 hours per pick, before the next person can "pass" you. Of course, as in year's past, you will be able to make your selection at anytime if you get passed.

We will be changing the format to a head-to-head league.
We will be 20 teams again. The "regular season" ends in early September and the "playoff" teams play each other the final few weeks of the year.

The categories will remain the same R, H, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, W, K, ERA, WHIP, SAVES

The innings minimum each week will be 10 innings. There will be no innings max, however you will only be able to make lineup changes for Monday-Sunday. (there will be a Sunday night at 11:59 deadline to get your lineup set for the upcoming week)

Same positions as last year: 9 hitters (8 position + 1 Util) 9 Pitchers (5 SP, 4 RP) and 9 bench spots (27 roster spots). In addition, there will be 2 DL spots. Like last year, there will be a transaction limit of 20 pickups per team.

25 bucks per team. Please pay the commissioner (to be determined) by April 1st.

Prizes go to the playoff teams:

1st place 300
2nd place 125
3rd place 50
4th place 25

2 guys from last year are electing to not return this year, so we have at least 2 spots open, so spread the word.

PLEASE CONFIRM IF YOU ARE IN FOR 2011 BY DEC 15th.

So yeah, 4 hours per pick is way way not working. We are all adults (except for Aaron [new crappy angels fan]) and can make swift picks. 4 hours is just cutting it SOOO close and I do like making this draft last as long as possible.

Sorry- I'm with Amato on this one- I like the 4 hour rule. Draft was too long last couple of years- really drags on at the end.

But....isn't that the fun? I mean, we start drafting now so we can fulfill our baseball needs all the way up until end of Feb/beginning of March. Sure it drags, but I think last year it was also because we had 20 people.

I'm not really crazy about the 4-hour rule either, if only because I live in Switzerland now (recent move) and will be on a 4-hour clock between the hours of 5pm-5am. I agree that the final 5-10 rounds can really drag, so why not just enforce it for later picks when people are being forced to take the Willie Bloomquists of the world?

Also, if we're going H2H, what is the playoff picture going to look like? Six teams, top two get a bye? Eight teams, no bye? Something longer than a three week playoff?

Agree with Mike here. How about 6 hours for rounds 1-15, and 4 hours for rounds 16-30?
