Draft Chat 2013

Someone has to start this thread.

No big surprises so far--Trout #1 is risky, but totally defensible. If he stays healthy, this may be the last year for awhile that there's even a debate about #1.

Kemp v. Cutch is a tough one--will Kemp stay healthy? How much will he run? Did McCutchen have a career year last year? Are the average and HRs repeatable? (.375 BABIP, 19.4% HR/FB suggest a bit of luck).

HELLO BASEBALL I'VE MISSED YOU

Although I couldn't pull the trigger, I really like the Cano pick. He is so significantly better than the next Middle Infielder it's not even funny. Nice to have those type of elite options at a scarce position.

As much as I'd like to take credit for making a good pick, I really think that my draft position and the fact that 30 more players will be coming off the board before my next pick (can that be right?) made that pick for me.

Enjoy Cano and his last year as a Yankee.

Nothing to say about the pick itself, it's solid, but I hope we can all chill out this year, not rush each other or have to feel rushed ourselves. Pitchers and catchers is still over a month away.

Plus, we just made 15 picks in a day. That's 3% of the total draft! Everyone's always in a big rush to finish, until it's done.

I think most of us here are in agreement with this statement. This is a marathon, not a sprint. That said, nothing is more frustrating than 1 or 2 owners who consistently are pushing the 6 hour mark in making their picks. I can confidently say that this group that we have assembled here seem to be on the ball- I'm optimistic that we'll be moving at a fun, reasonable pace. As you said, we got through 15 picks in day 1- which is great. But even at that pace (which we won't keep IMHO), we are still drafting into February.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

This was clearly my thinking. Honestly I feel that this is one of the more top heavy baseball seasons I have seen. Trout might be the riskiest but was clearly in argument. I could have made an argument for Braun or Miggy easily. Kemp might have been a homer pick but would anyone be shocked if he finished #1 overall, probably not. Everyone of the top 4 especially are stoked I think. My main goal was to simply get a 5 stat guy there, Trout's lineup and last season was just to hard to pass up.

Agreed. There was a pretty clear top 4 IMO. I was stoked to get pick 4 as I see a drop off from there. Kemp was the clear #1 last year and a 40/30 threat, so I'm happy to get him 4th.

In B.O., Mendoza has two of the top 4, by the way.

Lets just hope he doesn't get the number 1 pick.

Is this because I took Cano?

Also, read this: "The Year in Felix Hernandez Perfect Games"

I'd say make me an offer for King Felix, but then I know how much you hate draft pick trades

This is true. And there are a lot more frontline pitchers than there are top-tier second basemen.... but it is Felix.

We can make a deal without Cano in it. It would require future draft pick considerations though. Also I think there is another manager you would have to bid against, as he already made me an offer for the pick itself with the intention on drafting Felix with it.

By the time he is with ya in 2014, he will fit the Dodger's "former star in the midst statistical regression that new team is willing to overspend for in hopes of player returning to former glory, so lets keep our fingers crossed" mold perfectly.

Not trying to rush the draft of course, but it's too bad there's not some way to have the site email the guy who is up when his turn comes. I think most of the waiting isn't people deciding, but rather just not knowing when it is their pick.

You can go to the bottom of any page of the draft thread and click "Subscribe Topic." It won't let you know when your specific pick is up, but it will send you an e-mail every time a pick is made. It might make folks more aware to check and see if their pick is coming up soon.
